That's a 10 ---4
I grew up on the TV show "Highway Patrol." It seemed the star of the show, Broderick Crawford, was always dressed in a black suit and hat. Of course he wasn't.
From his beef eaters face came the grumbling ... "That's a 10---4!" It was like..."Over and Out!" It was a signal the conversation was ended, the action completed and the show was over. Crawford was a member of the California Highway Patrol.
It wasn't just that it was post World War II and these men and their stories of heroism on the highway were an extension of the surpremence in battle that was the propaganda following the War. It was as if one had something to do with the other.
There was even more important battle the TV series represented...the battle of creating, connecting and controlling the United States through highways and automobiles.
